The original Star of the Sea School. Demolished in the eighties, it was a classic victorian era school building. Terrifying. Mr Barry used to whip you with a cane.

The Tar Works. This spectacularly went up in flames in the early seventies. It was like a disaster movie! Oil barrels exploding and a huge column of flame that could be seen for miles around. It is now a Tesco's.

The Lift Bridge, next to the Red lion Pub. Traffic was regularly stopped whilst the bridge was raised to let barges pass on the Leeds Liverpool Canal. Me and my brother used to jump on it when it went up, and would be chased down bridge road by the bridgemaster, whose house was on the left. Circa 1970.
