Look at the prefabs on the scrubs alongside Braybrook street.I can see Wengham and Orwell House on the westway but Hayter House is still to be built. The monkey park between Winthrop House and White City Road is still to be laid out.The general Smuts pub and The Bloemfontein Road parade of shops are missing, not yet built.Bruce Diggles paper stall seems to be there by the stairs at the end of Ellenborough House facing the Westway. The large tree can be seen clearly between Carteret House and McKenzie Close.Air raid shelters can be seen at the rear of Ellenborough,Hargraves,Phipps and some of the luxury flats, together with tenants allotments on the back greens. No sign of Our Lady of Fatima Church or priest houses yet, those bits of waste ground were our sites for bonfires on Guy Fawke's Night. |
