Built by the South Eastern Railway to serve the branch from Strood to their inaccurately named terminus at Chatham Central, this bridge now carries all rail traffic on the Kent Coast route across the Medway at Rochester. |

Look at the traffic, or lack of it! This was a Thursday morning, about 8:00am I would guess from the shadows cast by the buildings, yet there are only 4 cars visible on this, the main route from London to Dover. Now in 2015, in addition to the disused rail bridge becoming a road bridge, there is the Medway tunnel to the north and two 4 lane motorway bridges to the south. The increase in traffic over a 67 year period is incredible. |
