Aintree Central Station (ex CLC) - Up to 1966 this station was very busy handling Grand National excursions from many parts of the UK. The station had very infrequent services during the rest of the year. Most services went to Warrington and Manchester over the North Liverpool Extension line. Latterly, direct services to Manchester and Liverpool Centrals (the old Liverpool Central high level station now the Merseyrail underground hub ) ceased as this route was somewhat roundabout using the Liverpool loop line and could not compete with the shorter route to Liverpool Exchange (now Moorfields) from Aintree Sefton Arms station. No trace of Aintree Central now exists. |

Aintree Sefton Arms Station (now only known as Aintree). This station now part of the Merseyrail system and the only stop for access to the racecourse. Sefton Arms was added to the name of the station to differentiate it from Aintree Central nearby. The imposing Sefton Arms Hotel, on the A59 close by, was demolished in the sixties. See aero photo by sesrch/key in Sefton Arms on this site |

St Peter's Parish Church on Warbreck Moor. Unfortunately this church was demolished in 1999 - This was my local church when I lived in this area. |

The railway as shown in the photo is the North Mersey Branch(LMS ex LYR) coming off the Manchester via Wigan line to Liverpool Exchange. This branch was mainly used for freight trains to the docks. Some electric train services ran from Aintree Sefton Arms station joining this line at Sefton Junction about one and a half miles further to the west (part of this junction can be seen passing alongside the highlighted engine shed). This alternative route to Liverpool Exchange via Bootle service ended in the early fifties. |

After the railway became redundant and trains no longer used the tracks these railway sheds stood for years and were only demolished late 90's. |
