Site of 2ndWW Beach Defence Battery. The Defence of Britain Project records - "Description: Gun emplacement for a 4in gun. The jetty, now demolished, extended for almost a mile W into the River Tees. The gun was mounted on a reinforced concrete holdfast and commanded the inner approaches of the River Tees. Due to a lack of space on the jetty the rear part of the gun house had to be left open to accommodate the recoil of the gun."
