Flying Boat’s Visit
A Sunderland flying boat and the Royal Air Force vessel Bridport, of Coastal Command, are due to arrive off the Thanet coast next week.
The aircraft and the ship are to anchor off Margate on Monday next, moving to Broadstairs on Tuesday and Ramsgate on the following day.
Margate has been chosen as the first of the 26 resorts to visited, and the aircraft will be continuing its task of coastal photography on behalf of the Ministry of Town and Country Planning.
The Sunderland will be from either 261 of 230 Squadron, the two Coastal Command units which operated in Burma and Atlantic and home waters during the war.
Commander of the 700-ton Brldport Sdn.-Lidr. E. W. Hardle, of Ashburton, Devon. The Bridport is a similar vessel to the Bridlington, which recently visited Margate in conjunction with the annual conference there in June of the R-A.F, Association. |
