There used to be or still is a brick monument on the playing fields. It was located on the corner of Great Bridge Rd and Bradley lane area, showing the first pit was dug. |

This is roughly at the centre of the area of land commonly known as the "Fiery Holes". It was associated with the 19th century Bradley Lodge Pit and numerous even older local small pits. Coal from this region might well have been used by Wilkinson in his pioneering 18th Ironworks at Lower Bradley |
