Looking at the two wet areas in this picture the one at the top might suggest old ploughing ridges as the bands are wide and the slopes are gentle. The one at the front seems to have a rather strange ploughing pattern with 'paths' left every 15 -20 rows. I wonder if there has been some deep ploughing carried out to breakup a clay soil or some underlying hard pan. If so it does no seem to have improved the drainage. Compared with these field the pasture land looks fairly well drained ... not all water has to runoff, but if this was an area of high permeability why is there so much water in these two fields. There is a pronounced diagonal line across the top quarter of the pictures, but I can't see if this is a road or water way. There is a glint light between the trees suggesting a reflection on water or a wet surface ... so probably not a railway. |

Poorly drained land, no visible evidence of sub-surface drains in foreground, but they seem to be present in the background; most fields are quite small, with straight boundaries, but few are rectangular. |
