 This gap is the site of the Savoy cinema, demolished just before WW2 broke out. M&S intended to build the second phase of their store here but the war put a stop to it. It was not built until some time around 1954 when post-war restrictions were being lifted. |

| This is Phase 1 of Marks and Spencer's store. It was completed before WW2 broke out. Phase 2 was to be on the site of the former Savoy cinema. The cinema was demolished before WW2 but the war stopped any building. |

| The Darley Street entrance to Kirkgate Market and Coronation bunting visible through the gap of the demolished Savoy Cinema which was replaced by the, much larger, former Ritz/ABC on Broadway.
The Savoy was demolished before WW2 with plans for an M&S store, but those plans were thwarted by the war and the shortages in the years after the war. |
