Built in 1905, Lots Road Power Station was the largest in Europe, built to supply electricity to London's undergound railway system. At this time it burnt coal, but was converted to oil and then, in the 1970s to natural gas. It was finally closed around the year 2000 and has been converted into luxury accommodation. In the 1990s, I had the job of negotiating the contract for gas supply to this and its sister station at Greenwich. |
