| This small structure might be a former ground-frame operator's hut for the branch line. It seems that there was a passing loop or bifurcation of the line at this point as the track alignment widens considerably. |

| This is the course of the branch line built during WW1 to service the various aircraft production facilities in the area. It left the Midland mainline to the south west of Hendon Aerodrome, across Aerodrome Road and then around the southern, eastern and northern perimeter of the airfield, under the embankment of the future Northern Line Edgware extension, across Montrose Park and ending on the eastern side of the Edgware Road, immediately north of the Tram Depot.
The only existing trace of the short-lived branch line is an old locomotive shed in Montrose Park, now used for storage. |

On closer magnified inspection you can see it says 'General Motors Co' on entrance. This well known company moved in after WW1. |

This marks the route of the old Midland Railway spur, which ran from the Midland mainline around the northern perimeter of Hendon Aerodrome and ended by the Airco factory site on the Edgware Road. It was constructed during the latter part of WW1 to service the various aircraft construction facilities along its route. It was decommissioned soon after the end of hostilities, but part of the route may easily be discerned in this photograph. An old engine shed still survives in Montrose playing fields and can be seen in this photograph. It is about the only surviving artefact of the wartime railway spur. |

| Silkstream Park, Burnt Oak. The stream was know in Anglo-Saxon times as the 'Sulc', and has tragically cause lost lives in the past. The Environment Agency built a large 'flash flood' water storage area within the Park, close to the entrance from Montrose Avenue, on the left. |
