Beyer Peacock was established by Charles Beyer and Richard Peacock in 1854. The firm built steam locomotives and latterly some diesels too, before closure in 1966. This company was one of the leading exporters of British steam locomotives overseas, along with others such as Kitson of Leeds (qv) and the North British Locomotive Co of Glasgow. Beyer Peacock was renowned for the articulated Beyer Garratt steam locomotives which were exported in significant quantities to countries such as South Africa and Rhodesia |
