I lived at 17 Paxton road until the bitter winter of 1962-63 and recall my Fathers brothers (I was 6yrs) building a large snowman outside the post office on the corner of Paxton road. |

Actually it is The Avenue. The A27 West Street came up to the Station Approach where it then became The Avenue right through to the junction with the Titchfield Road. After which it became Southampton Road as far as Park Gate, (and they all still are so named). |

The station is on the ex-London & South Western line from London to Portsmouth. It was, in 1922, junction for lines to Eastleigh, to Southampton and to Cosham (and on by the LB&SCR to Chichester). The main line is now electrified but not, I think, in 1928 |

Portsmouth was reached via Cosham. This main line ran to Gosport. The London-Portsmouth direct runs via Guildford, Haslemere, Petersfield and Rowland's Castle |
