This part of the Bridgewater Canal links to: (1) the Rochdale Canal which crosses the Pennines to link with the Calder and Hebble Navigation at Sowerby Bridge; (2) the Ashton Canal which in turn links to both the Huddersfield Narrow Canal (another cross-Pennine route) and to the Peak Forest and the Macclesfield Canals.

This part of the Bridgewater Canal heads roughly SE, links with the River Weaver Navigation at the Anderton Boat Lift and eventually joins with the Trent and Mersey Canal at Middlewich.

Can anyone read what's written here, or identify the works? I make the first or second letter P.

I have a book ' Trafford Park from Old Photographs'. On page 98 it shows those building although it may be a few years before or after this photo. It appears that at some time it said 'Gas Engines Diesel Engines' (but in white). Factories used this method to advertise the products they made. Whether it says the same on this photo is hard to tell as it is so blurred.

EPW038553 is a closer view, a little to the east (1932).

Thank you everyone, great location "spot". We'll update the catalogue, and post the correct location data here in due course.

You may be interested to know that the Aerofilms Ltd Register entry for this glass plate is "dud". Not much help...

Major canal or navigation, I would suggest Weaver navigation, maybe salt works, northern looking terraces
