I don't see any evidence this is not a through road. It goes off the RHS of the image, past the thatched cottage. |

Yes, you can just see the hoops. |

Definitely croquet hoops laid out, although often a croquet lawn does not mark a boundary. |

Plus some timbering is visible. If this cottage still survives it would almost certainly be listed. |

Q. If you were designing such a house and garden like this from a 'clean sheet' would you place the grounds in a south direction? and the greenhouse East - West alignment? A. I would. Does this help? |

I attach the text of a response from the Surrey History Centre: Unidentified Aerial Photograph Thank you for your e-mail of 22 September 2014. A search has been made in our collections catalogue for any reference to Major Cochran-Patrick to find out where he may have lived in Woking but no records were found. Looking online, William John Charles Kennedy Cochran-Patrick, to give his full name, appears to have been born in Edinburgh and died in an air crash in Johannesburg in September 1933, aged 37. I am not sure that he ever actually lived in Woking. After war service, he did aerial survey work and so he may have taken the photograph but he appears to have mainly worked abroad in South America, Burma and southern Africa. I also checked a Kelly’s Directory for Surrey for 1930 but Major Cochran-Patrick was not listed. I and my colleagues have looked at the photos you emailed but we don’t recognise the house. I have also searched some 6 inch maps of the Woking area from 1934 and there certainly were some large houses with extensive gardens in the area but I couldn’t find one that appeared to be located in the position that your photograph shows. There are what appear to be two full size tennis courts marked out so it might be some sort of sports club or a hotel as it is a very large property to be a family home. It also appears to be in quite a rural area surrounded by fields so may be quite some way outside Woking itself. Unfortunately none of this helps identify where the property might be. I am sorry we cannot help further on this occasion but certainly if you find any additional information regarding the house or a more specific location we will be happy to look again. This enquiry has been answered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act (2000), Data Protection Act (1998) and the Environmental Information Regulations. I think Beith was Major Cochran-Patrick's parents' place. I am fairly sure the Major and his wife were at Little Kendal(l)s ( EPW030034 ), near Radlett, Herts. (Which isn't this house). |

I am today in contact with the Surrey History Centre in the hope that they may be able to assist me in locating this photograph. They advise me that the address for probate for Major Cochran-Patrick was Ladyland Beith Ayrshire which is nowhere near Woking. I shall continue enquiries with the Surrey History Society and persue also the Scottish link. |

Hullo everyone. Thanks for taking the time to look into this one. I've had a good look at Brandon Park but I don't think this image shows that house. The Listed Building Description for Brandon Park doesn't match what can be seen here. The original Aerofilms Ltd Register entry reads "Private Residence near Woking taken for Major Patrick". I suspect that's Major Cochran-Patrick who sat on Aerofilms Ltd's Board in the late 1920s. Yours, Katy Britain from Above Cataloguing Team Leader |

I'm sure that we now have a better chance of locating this group of three photos said to be in the Woking area. I've been quartering the area around Woking this morning and drawn a blank. I wonder if sight of say the 1932 edition of Who's Who would actually tell us the address of Major Patrick( and I was in the British Library yesterday but didn't know we needed this information.) |

Any details? What were these buildings? Do they still exist? If no, what hapenned to them as I cannot see them on maps |

As much as I'd like these buildings to be located I'm sorry to say that I can't see anything in the way of maps or photos to support this location. Brandon Park House does not appear to have changed drastically in shape or layout since the 1882 map and non of the buildings around the area pinned ever looked like this house. |
