Sluice gate marking the beginning of culverted section of the Longford river, built by Whitehead Aircraft, under the north end of the air park. The Lord Mayor of London, Sir William Henry Dunn performed the ceremony of diverting the river on October 16th, 1917. The expense of construction contributed to the shaky finances of the company and necessitated a huge public share issue to raise more capital. |
