In later years I told many people there used to be a mens urinal in Cadishead with no roof which could be seen into from passing trains on the Cheshire lines railway at the side. Lots said I was wrong - here's the proof, Wotec

These are the Tar beds where liquid tar was run out to set and harden, in my youth they frequently caught fire and we were ofter evacuated from Hayes Road till it was put out. The comment "Tar Works Is On Fire Again" was often heard in our house but was ignored unless the police called. During the war we watched incendiary bombs falling around here and some rolling of the large gasometer just across the canal. Fortunately when they should have ignited they didn't.

No 31 Hayes Road. It was very likely that I was in this house when this picture was taken. Aged about 5. Now (2014) Aged 84 and this house hasn't changed much though I don't live there now.

Paddling pool. My brothers, sister and I have had many happy times here. Picture is of my sister, center, about 19 . The pool was only 12" at deep end so I don't know why the bathing caps were a necessity. Wotec
