The Gillingham cement plant started in 1874, and was closed by Blue Circle in 1912. It re-opened under new management in 1920, and was up-dated with a rotary kiln in 1930. It was finally bought by the Rugby Portland Cement Company Ltd in 1938, and was promptly shut down.
