The newly built Bridge Hotel. The story is that licensing applications for this premises and that for the contemporaneous Greenford Hotel down by the Iron Bridge were confused. Subsequently, the Bridge Hotel was nowhere near any bridge and the Greenford Hotel (now a McDonalds restaurant) is in Southall. The mistake was never rectified. |

Barely visible in the shadows is South Greenford Halt.
Some sources say it re-used the platforms from the closed Trumpers Crossing Halt, from the Brentford-Southall branch. |

This is the remaining administration block of the Central London District School. This was a 'poor law' school intended for underprivileged children. It operated from 1857 until its closure in 1933.
A young Charlie Chaplin and his elder half brother attended this school from 1896-98.
The photograph shows the redevelopment of the school grounds as the Cuckoo Estate. The admin block was retained and serves as the Hanwell Community Centre. |
