After the war, this bit of rough ground - reached up a steep slope from Headstone Drive next to the steepled building - was a junk yard the like of which you don't see today. My dad took me there as a kid and would haggle with the owner over odd bits of timber he wanted. Bit reminiscent of Steptoe's really. |

The InShops building seems to serve a similar purpose; a retail arcade. The Popular Stores is a 1930s building. The InShops building is very much more recent. |

My Great Grandparents lived in cottages called 'Pleasant Place' where the Police Station is now. This was in late Victorian times. Never seen any photos of the cottages though. |
