Sources say this was home of Ayr FC 1884-1888 (when they moved to the Somerset Park site) and then of Ayr Parkhouse FC til 1910 when the two combined as Ayr United. Ayr looked for a new ground because Beresford was staging a cattle show! United are said to have used Beresford during WW1 and for reserve games until 1926. Clearly still a football ground in late 1927 however ? |

Ayr Mill St Power Station Electricity Works built by the Ayr Corporation in 1896, was extended in 1901 to cope with the additional demand required for the tramways. The Ayrshire Electricity Board was set up in 15/05/23, soon after a new 20kv overhead line was constructed from the large Kilmarnock power station and the Ayr station closed |
