The houses in the foreground are in Windsor Road and they look relatively new so I would guess that this photograph was taken in the !920's because in 1940 this estate was extended and Windsor Road became twice as long.The estate was known as The New Houses Estate.

The white single storey building on the left of the photograph is the rear of Merthyr Road Garage.It is still there unlike the open air swimming pool which has now unfortunately gone.In summer it was a favourite place of many of the people but especially the children from Brynmawr.

The pool was constructed by the unemployed men of the area in the depression, they were given food as wages. King Street Garage is at right and baths lane runs right to the pool. I went to the Nursery school which was built nearby later in the 50;s
