SITE OF BROAD STREET, SHOPPING CENTRE, WHERE BRIAN GREENAWAY & SON BUILDING CONTRACTORS, CONVERTED THE OLD AA INSURANCE OFFICE INTO A 350 SEAT CHINESE, THE GRAND IMPERIAL, NOW CHINA PALACE IN 2000. TWO MEN WHO WORKED ON THAT JOB BOTH LIVED IN ABINGDON AND WITH IN ONE YEAR OF EACH OTHER THEY BOTH DIED OF CANCER. REST IN PEACE JOHN PERCIVAL (PERCY) BRICKLAYER AGED 65 AND VINCENT BUCKLE (BUCK) CONTRACTS MANAGER AGED 50. R.I.P.FROM A.J.G

This is the site of James Dymore &sons Family Brewery. Queens road and went all the way down east street.The Brewery was named after a pub which stood on the site The Albert Tap, this pub along with about 6 other plot that james Dymore Brown and to aquire over about 20 years before he could build his brewery and called it the Royal Albert Brewery. Morlands Abingdon aquired the shares of dymore-browns brewery.Thomas Skurray Chairman of Morlands also aquired the shares of Fergugson Angel Brewery broad street, andmoved fergusons to Queens road, untill 1977 when Morlands moved all Brewing to there Abingdon site and sadley that was the End of Two of Readings Great Breweries,also justin Brinns castle street Brewery was closed by jas Dymore Brown once he had built the new Queens Road brewery. Thats why apart from H & G Simons Brewery Morland had the next largest amount of pubs 55 over the years.
