This building was the Poplar Board of Works Office on the corner of Poplar High Street and Woodstock Terrace. It is grade 2 listed and now a hotel. The original Poplar Town Hall is on this image and located in Newby Place. In the image it is a ruin after being destroyed early in the war by an incendiary bomb. |

Emergency housing known as Pre-fabs. They were meant to last for 15 years, but many were still being lived well into the sixties. |

No 9 Woodstock Terrace. My grandparents lived here until one morning when the grandfather sat on a chair it collapsed through the floorboards. Poplar Borough Council, the landlords, condemned the house and rehoused them to Currie House. Always referred to has Pneumonia Mansions by my Nan as the place was freezing in the winter months. |
