Either side of this marker can just be seen some of the piles of bombs, still yet to be removed, left behind by the Yanks when the left RAF Wortley Reserve Ammunition Depot. It was another year before all ordnance had been removed, read the story in 'RAF Wortley', available online (ebay). |

Locaton of the WW2 HAA Gun battery at Chapeltown, designation number L/H14. This site was also known as the Hunshelf Gun. This can be seen in operation online on the Yorkshire Film Archive, search for Hunshelf Gun. The marker is at the position of the gun pits and the darker marks to the right are the admin/accommodation blocks. |
