Double-ended, specially adapted Q Stock car near the Bollo Lane over-bridge on the Acton Town - South Acton shuttle service. One of two units specially constructed to operate this shuttle service. As can be seen, the spur was once double tracked, probably when there was a full service to Hounslow Barracks and South Harrow. In 1932 the service was reduced to a single line shuttle to and from Acton Town. This service was discontinued in 1959 due to low passenger usage and the spur line was lifted and the Bollo Lane bridge dismantled. |

This is a Metropolitan Vickers Bo-Bo locomotive, one of twenty built in 1922/23 for the Metropolitan Railway. It seems to be languishing in sidings for condemned stock. It is almost certainly, then, No 15 - Wembley 1924 which was so named as it was displayed in The Palace of Engineering during the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley in 1924 (although actually appearing on display during the second season of the exhibition in 1925). This loco was involved in a depot shunting accident in 1951, which resulted in its subsequent withdrawal and scrapping as being beyond economic repair. Although it is not possible to discern in this monochrome photograph, the locomotive was still at this time in its wartime austerity livery of service grey. It looks to be awaiting its fate along with assorted Q and CO/CP units. Is that a line of washing next to it? |

Battery loco. It's probably, itself, condemned stock, as it is located in sidings clearly used for that purpose. Were it used for the shunting of the nearby condemned surface stock, there would have been an interceding match wagon of some description. |

A traverser. This was a convenient way of laterally repositioning individual cars to different areas within the depot without engaging in complicated and disruptive shunting movements. |

Coal exchange sidings presumably used to deliver coal to what would then have been the adjacent coal fired boiler room. |

This locomotive is very possibly a former District Railway Hunslet 0-6-0ST of which there were two based at Lillie Bridge Depot (L30 & L31) used for departmental duties.
