This was Southport Junction. The nearer of the two railway routes, ie the CLC line, ceased to operate passenger trains beyond this junction in 1952 ie the near lines leading to the left in the photo. Trains on this route had previously terminated at Southport Lord Street Station. After 1952 excursion trains to Southport ex Manchester and calling at the CLC North Liverpool Extension Line stations, crossed over the junction onto the Preston line. Using this alternative route, trains turned off this line at the Burscough Curve,and from this connection travelled west to terminate at Southport Chapel Street Station. |
