The correct name of the cement works pictured here in the Thurrock chalk and whiting co.quarry,is the Fondu Works lafarge Aluminous cement co. ltd.Although the works was built in a chalk quarry,it did not use chalk to produce CIMENT FONDU(rock hard in 24 hrs.)but used bauxite and limestone to make the cement.I worked here for 7 years in the 1950's. . he cement.The Thurrock chalk & whiting co. did all the |

The Metropolitan Cement Works did not exist at this time. This is the Lafarge calcium aluminate cement plant. |
