There was a WW1 army camp here in Higher Denham. The current roadway system here describes the original camp layout. The camp was associated with 16th (Church Lads Brigade) Battalion, The King's Royal Rifle Corps. After their departure to France, in April 1915, the camp was taken over by an RFC officer cadet training school (No.1 Officer Cadet Battalion). When this unit relocated in 1917, the camp became home to No 5 School of Military Aeronautics. This unit was disbanded in 1919 and the camp was sold off. |
