 Sand. Now a memory as in 2014 the beach was covered in 50,000 tons of rocks with a very steep slope to the sea "as a sea defence". There remains a tiny bit of sand by the pier end. |

 The buildings near this pin are the pier end toilets, recently they have been locked out of use quite early in the day.
The small octagonal buildings at the pier end go back to 1858, although the roofs have been flattened - they are now used as a bar and as a cafe.
The pier was first built in 1858 but wrecked by a storm. The present pier from Happy Valley was built 1877, and then an extension was added in 1894.
A landing stage was added in 1891, and the large pier head pavilion was built in 1905. Originally there was a small bandstand where the pavilion now stands, but the band moved to the 1886 Pier Pavilion (destroyed 1994) next to the Grand Hotel.

Francis Bedford died in 1894 and the National Media Museum Collection describe this image (cat 1990-6037-B1-2164) as "no known copyright" as the photographer died over 70 years ago. |

 Pier extension added in 1884.
The original pier can be seen in this 1880 image by Francis Bedford. In 1880 the pier head had yet to receive its 1891 landing stage, and the large 1905 pier head pavilion has not been built- the old small bandstand was in its place.

| The Marine Drive, built as a footpath in 1858 and as a carriageway in 1878. It is a toll road, and is one way for the first three and a half miles, the final mile is two way to give access to residents on Llys Helig.
Due to rock falls the Marine Drive is sometimes made bidirectional for short periods.
Poor signposting at the West Shore end also encourages drivers to drive the wrong way from time to time so always drive slowly! as the road is narrow and there are many hidden bends. There is a good pedestrian footway. There is a cafe about half way round. |

| Pier Pavilion, built 1886, gave a warmer space for the pier orchestra to play. It was badly damaged by fire in 1994, and twenty years later in 2014, the wreckage remains to be seen, the deep pit now full of mature trees and large buddleia..
The prominent site seems to have been abandoned. |
