There is a large & impressive memorial to Evan James and his son James who respectively composed the words and music for Mae hen wlad fy nhadau. Haven't been to Ponty for forty years so can't recall exact location. Could this be it ?

ontypridd Station. Opened in October 1840 as a single platform. After several rebuilds, the Taff Vale Rly. rebuilt it into its pictured form in 1907, raising the entire alignment by 5 feet. By completion in 191o, the island platform you see was the longest in Europe at the time, with departures on average every 30 seconds!

From Pontypridd to Treherbert the line follows the Rhondda Fawr. The valley from Porth to Maerdy is the Rhondda Fach.
