There is the wake from another vessel. Is this a tug preparing for the departure of the Himalaya or another departing ship. There would not appear to be enough activity on the either the ship or the quayside for the departure to be imminent. |

This building is the 13 bay Baggage Hall, to the West of the railway station.
The actual 11 bay station is off the image to the East. |

Grade 2* listed building - English Heritage Building ID: 119858
Railway station and baggage hall, ticket office, and floating landing stage. Built in 1924 to designs by Sir Edwin Cooper for the Port of London Authority in a neo-Georgian style.

Built for 758 first class passengers and 401 tourist class.
Crew 572
Operated mainly between Britain and Australia.
Withdrawn from service in 1974 and scrapped in Taiwan the next year. |

Himalaya was the last P&O ship to use Tilbury. She left at 3pm on 10th October 1974. |

This is the Tilbury landing stage, not a "cruise terminal". In 1950, ships were a means of transport. |
