It is possible to see the course of the railway branch built during WW1 that left the Midland mainline, crossed Aerodrome road and then ran around the perimeter of the airfield, along what became Angus Gardens, under what became the Edgware branch of the Northern Line, through Montrose Park and on to the east side of the Edgware Road.
It was built to service the various wartime aircraft production sites in and around the aerodrome. It fell out of use soon after the end of hostilities and most of the route has since been built over, apart from Montrose Park where an engine shed still survives, now used for storage. |
