Alma Mills.This agricultural mill was owned by my grandfather, and managed by my dad until the mid 60s, when it was bought out by a rival concern. I spent many happy hours sitting in its sidings bay with a first class view of the three different rail routes that were serviced by the old Horns bridge complex.

Alma Inn

The famous Horns Bridge complex. The completed part of the ambitious Lancashire, Derbyshire & East Coast Railway opened in 1897 its line into Market Place station. To do so it constructed the viaduct seen here, a combination of 7 brick arches, 4 lattice girder spans and a bowstring bridge were required to cross two rivers, two main roads and the existing Midland Railway (main line and Brampton branch) and Great Central Railway lines. Plus various sidings and footpaths. Finally swept away c 1985.
